Outdoor Learning and Forest School

Back

The expansive parklands of meadows and woodland that surround the Pickhurst Academies provide rich and varied opportunities to extend children's learning.  Children enjoy learning outdoors whether in their specially designed outdoor spaces and sensory garden, listening to stories in our magical woodland storytelling area, or following Darwin's Thinking Walk.  Wildlife habitats that include opportunities to observe, investigate and learn about mini beasts, birds and pond life are part of our engaging and creative curriculum.

Every child participates in our Forest School, that promotes the development of the whole child, their self esteem and confidence, through child initiated activities.  These include hunting for mini beasts, building shelters, creating sculptures and collages with natural materials and caring for the environment.  Staff and parents see the children's leadership and team building skills grow as they explore and experience the natural world.
