Meet the Governors

Governors are a group of volunteers who include parents, staff and members of our local community. We have a wide range of expertise and experience but share a common commitment and passion for improving the education of the children at Pickhurst Infants Academy.

Our main role is to support, challenge and work with the Principal, Head of School and the school as a whole in providing high standards of education. We are fortunate to have a group of governors with a wide range of professional skills which are deployed to address the needs of the school in both the short and longer term.  Our role is sometimes described as a ‘critical friend’,  challenging and supporting the school to continually improve.

Governors regularly visit the school and we also endeavour to communicate regularly with parents and others in the school community.  If you have any questions for us, please feel free to contact any of us via the school.  The list below gives you a  quick run-down of who we all are.

I have lived in Bromley most of my life and been a governor of the Pickhurst schools since the early 1980's. I have a long history of working with authoritative bodies such as the Audit Commission and the National Audit Office, and with education departments across the UK. In addition to providing Client Requirements and bid assessments for more than twenty Private Finance Initiative projects for schools, much of my work has related to the building forensics and buildings aspects of educational productivity, to the benefit of pupils and staff. I am a contributors to TM57 Integrated School Design (published 2015 by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) that has helped the Education Funding Agency and the Department for Education update their guidance on school design.

Colin Ashford

I am a parent Governor and was voted onto the board of Governors in the Autumn term of 2014 for a four year term. My daughter was in year 2 at the time and my youngest daughter had applied to enter Reception; thankfully she started at Pickhurst Infants in September 2015.  I wanted to be a Governor because I felt that I could use my skills and professional experience in education to support our school leaders and make sure that Pickhurst Infants School remains a fantastic school. I bring to the Governing body high expectations and a desire to ensure that this school helps all of our children to feel happy and inspired to learn and to make exceptional progress.

Kate Ambrosi

I have been a governor at Pickhurst since late 2015. I am an accountant by profession, until recently working at a large accountancy firm. I became a governor as I believe children are the foundation of our community and that we as a community should do all we can to ensure that the experience our children have at school is as valuable and happy as possible.

Kate Craven

I have been a school governor since April 2015. I have four grandchildren, who are a joy and take up a great deal of my time. My background is in secondary and special education - specifically with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties. I am delighted to have been invited to join the Governing Body of Pickhurst Infant Academy. My specific responsibilities on the Governing Body are as Chair of two committees; The Personal Development, Behaviour, Well-being and Discipline Committees. Pickhurst Infant Academy is an exceptional school with high expectations of every-one involved, pupils, parents, staff and governors. It is an exciting time for the school and I am pleased to be involved in the future development.

Lynn Key

I first joined the Governing body in 1997 as a parent governor. I was also involved with the PTA as both chair and treasurer, while my children were at the school. I have served on most of the Governing body committees over the years and currently serve as a Community Governor as Vice Chair of the Governing body, sitting on both the Finance & Personnel committees. I have a background in Finance within housing associations and schools and so have a particular interest in making the best of our resources to the maximum benefit of the children.

Jane Knight

I joined the governing body as a parent governor in 2007 when my son was year 1.  With a background in secondary education, I was keen to be more involved in the school as I felt that my experience could be of benefit. I became a community governor once my youngest son had left the school and became Chair of Governors in 2013.  I consider being a governor at Pickhurst Infant Academy a real privilege.  The parents, staff and governors of this school form a wonderful community but most importantly, it is a real privilege to be able to contribute in any way to improving the lives of our young children.

Christina Moody

I have been a parent governor since December 2014. I have a daughter in Year 1, and a son who is now in the Junior School. In my professional life I manage a Children’s Centre in a neighbouring Local Authority. I wanted to use both my personal and professional skills to make a positive contribution towards Pickhurst Infant Academy. I really enjoy my role, which gives me a fascinating insight into the incredible amount of hard work that goes in to running an outstanding school.
