Pickhurst Press

Our school newspaper is produced by the children and sold every term for £1, in order to raise funds for our school library.

In each issue, you can read about the latest events in our school, recent outings and what each year group have been up to. Also, there are fantastic jokes, recipes, interviews, fun activities to try, and much, much more!

In the summer term, our hard-working journalists visited the headquarters of the Metro newspaper, where we met the editor and even had a go at creating our very own front pages!

We hope you enjoy reading our future issues!

Pickhurst journalists visit Metro Newspaper

In the Summer term, year one and year two children who write for the school newspaper, Pickhurst Press, went to High Street Kensington to visit the offices of Metro Newspaper.   After an exciting journey by bus, train and tube the children were officially signed into Northcliffe House, the home of Associated Newspapers.  The children were amazed at the size of the office building and stared in awe at the enormous fish living in the pond inside the atrium.  We were lucky enough to spend time with three members of the Metro team who talked to us about who their readers are and about the features and sections within the paper. The children were then given a task to create their very own front page with headlines, banners, pictures and by-lines; you will be able to see some of these on the Pickhurst Press display in the year one corridor.   As an extra special treat, the editor of Metro came to talk to the children in the boardroom about what it is like to write a real newspaper and inspired them to work hard on their grammar and spelling if they wanted to be journalists when they grew up.  What a fantastic role model!

Remember to look out for our next edition of Pickhurst Press!   You will be supporting our budding journalists and helping to raise money at the same time.
